4th of July Preschool Worksheets

One of our favorite parts of the summer is celebrating the Fourth of July. These 4th of July Preschool Worksheets are perfect for teaching your kids about the holiday, and learning the Pledge of Allegiance!

These activities were designed for kids in preschool, to help them learn about the Pledge of Allegiance. The worksheets contain 4 different levels of handwriting so they can be adapted to kids with varying abilities. They are also great for siblings to work on together!

Use the 4th of July Preschool Worksheets Again and Again

It is easy to turn these Fourth of July worksheets for preschoolers into a resource that you can use over and over again in your homeschool! Try these tips to make this a reusable resource.

• Print the pages on thick cardstock to make them more durable.
• Laminate the pages with a single sheet laminator and laminating pouches.
• Or, put worksheets in a dry erase pocket to protect them.
• Kids can write on laminated pages with a dry erase marker and erase when they are done.

• Print the 4th of July preschool worksheets. You may want to laminate the pages so they can be used over and over again.

How to Use the 4th of July Preschool Worksheets

These 4th of July preschool worksheets are designed to help your child learn about the Pledge of Allegiance, while they practice their handwriting. There are several different levels of handwriting pages included so kids of different ages can practice together.

• Beginner level poster pages include a sentence to trace and a picture to color
• Intermediate level pages include a sentence to trace and lines to copy it right below
• Advanced pages include a sentence to copy and a picture to color
• Poster pages include a sentence to read and a full-color illustration

Step 1: Read

The first step to learning and memorizing the Pledge of Allegiance is to read it out loud together with your child. Take time to make sure that your child knows and understands all the words and concepts in the text. You might want to take some time to define words like:

• Allegiance: loyalty or commitment
• Republic: a country that is governed by its people
• Indivisible: can not be separated
• Liberty: freedom
• Justice: fair treatment

Step 2: Trace

These 4th of July preschool worksheets for learning the Pledge of Allegiance include tracing pages. These pages have a short phrase from the Pledge of Allegiance for kids to trace, and a patriotic picture to color.

When memorizing a long passage like the Pledge of Allegiance, it helps to break the text down into shorter phrases. Shorter sections are easier to memorize, and less overwhelming, to younger kids.

Tracing pages like these are also a great way for kids to practice their handwriting. Because they are copying letters that are printed, they can see the size and position of each letter on the lines. It is important to make sure that your child is using the correct strokes in the right order to form each letter when they are practicing.

Step 3: Copy

The Pledge of Allegiance pack has 2 different kinds of worksheets for kids to practice copying the Pledge.

First, worksheets are provided that have a line for kids to trace the letters, and a blank line for them to copy right below. It is easier for kids to copy text when they are copying right below the model, so these pages are designed to be used first.

More difficult pages are also included that have all the text on top and all the lines for copying underneath. When completing these worksheets, kids will need to keep track of where they are in the text. This makes these sheets more challenging for them.

Step 4: Memorize

As kids are practicing and copying the Pledge of Allegiance, they should begin to memorize it naturally. Many of the worksheets include shorter sections to help make memorizing easier.

Another trick to help your kids memorize what they are writing is to ask them to say the words out loud as they write. This helps with memory because kids are hearing the words as well, which engages more of the brain.

Adapt the 4th of July Preschool Worksheets for Your Kids:

For Younger Kids:

Practice Coloring.

If your child is not ready to read or write yet, you can use these worksheets as coloring pages. Ask your child to color the picture. You can also ask your child to add their own details to the pictures.

You can also try some fun activities to celebrate the 4th of July with your younger kids, like this 4th of July memory game. Your child might also enjoy a craft, like this patriotic suncatcher kids craft. Making a red white and blue sensory bottle is another great way to celebrate the holiday.

For Older Kids:

Say the Pledge.

The goal of these pages is to help kids memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. Older kids might enjoy performing the Pledge for relatives or friends once they have memorized it.

Practice cursive handwriting.

The blank lines in this pack could be used for older kids who are learning cursive. Although cursive isn’t the focus in this pack, those pages can be used for cursive practice so that families can use this pack together!

Completing an art project is a great way to practice fine motor skills too. Try making a firework with Q-tips or drawing a picture to show what you’re learning in your American Revolution unit.
