Forbrain Headset Review for Homeschool Learning
As a homeschool parent and a former teacher, I’m always on the lookout for tools and tricks that can help motivate my kids to want to learn at home. That’s why I’m so glad I discovered the Forbrain Headset from Forbrain by Sound for Life. This unique device uses technology to help kids focus on the sound of their own voices, and it’s a great way to keep kids engaged and excited about learning. My kids love using Forbrain for homeschool because they get a chance to wear the headset and hear their own voice in a unique way. Here are some of the ways that we are using Forbrain in our homeschool.

I received compensation and a Forbrain Headset from Forbrain by Sound for Life in exchange for my honest review, but all the opinions in this post are my own.
What is the Forbrain Headset?
Forbrain is a bone conduction headset. This means that when kids use the Forbrain headset, their brains hear their voices differently than they normally would. Normally, sound waves travel through the air into our ears, and the waves in the air cause the structures in the ear to vibrate and send signals to the brain. When kids use Forbrain, Its bone conduction technology transmits sound waves through their bones instead, which skips the process of the waves traveling through the air.

Forbrain works by using the auditory feedback loop. This is a process where people hear spoken language, analyze it, and then adjust their speech based on what they hear. Forbrain can help kids with language difficulties or focus issues be able to focus on the sounds they are hearing in a different way, which could help them analyze and adjust their speech as well.
Forbrain also has a dynamic filter that reduces background noise. This can have a positive impact on kids who need help focusing on the task at hand.
Forbrain is conducting scientific research into the headset and how it works for a variety of speech issues and challenges. If your child has an auditory processing disorder or sensory processing disorder, you can check out the latest research about Forbrain here.

Using Forbrain Brain Training for Homeschooling
Even after learning about Forbrain, I was surprised about some of the benefits my family saw from using the headset. Here are some of the ways that we are using Forbrain in our homeschool.
Motivation for Learning
One of the biggest benefits of using the Forbrain headset for my family has been that my kids like wearing it, and they are excited to practice pretty much anything if it means they get to wear the headset.
My son, who is always curious to know how things work, is fascinated by this headset. The first time he put on the Forbrain bone conduction headset, he was so confused about how he could hear his voice without having anything in his ears. This turned into a great lesson all about hearing, sound waves, and bone conduction.
My daughter likes to wear the headset and pretend that she’s on stage performing at a concert.
As a former teacher, I know that whenever my kids are excited and motivated to learn, they will learn better and remember more. Any time I can help my kids get excited to learn, it’s a win for us!

Focus and Attention
As a homeschool parent, I’m always trying to help my kids focus and pay attention while they are learning. I love the way that Forbrain helps kids focus on the sound of their voice, which helps with focus whenever we are reading or speaking.
Forbrain’s bone conduction transducers play a crucial role in this. They transmit sound directly through the bones to the nervous system, bypassing the sound waves in the air. This means my kids are not just hearing through their ears but through their entire heads, which has had a surprising and positive effect on their ability to focus. The auditory processing is different and more direct, helping my kids to concentrate better on their tasks.
I also love that our Forbrain headset came with a second microphone. I can wear this microphone and have a conversation with my child while they’re wearing the headset, and both voices will be amplified through the headset. I also discovered that we could use the headphone jack to plug in a phone or tablet and listen to videos using the headset too!

Memorizing and Reading
One of the surprising ways that Forbrain has helped in my homeschool has been by motivating my kids to practice repetitive tasks, like memorizing Bible verses or reading a passage several times in a row to practice reading fluency. My son loves wearing the headset and saying his Bible verses out loud over and over to memorize them. Repeating the verses over and over helps them move from his short term memory to long term memory, and the headset helps motivate him to do that.
My daughter has been practicing her reading fluency by reading the same passages or books over and over again. She likes reading with the Forbrain headset on, and all the extra practice has helped her reading speed and fluency to increase.

Easy to Use for Busy Homeschool Families
One of the best parts about the Forbrain headset is how easy it is to use. As a busy homeschool parent, I’m always on the lookout for resources that fit easily into our daily routine without requiring extra time or effort. Forbrain fits this bill perfectly. It’s as simple as putting on the headset and continuing with our regular homeschool plans.
The beauty of Forbrain lies in its ability to integrate into a variety of activities that naturally improve speech and cognitive skills. Forbrain recommends using the headset while doing things that naturally improve communication, like talking to our kids or playing board games, as well as while as during lessons, like when reading out loud. These are the kinds of activities that help kids develop their speech and language, and using the headset is a great way to encourage us to do more of these activities.
Whether it’s for communication exercises, interactive learning sessions, or reading practice, using Forbrain doesn’t require any extra time or lessons. Instead, it helps us focus during the lessons we’re already doing.
I also like that Forbrain offers control and choices to kids. There’s an ‘off button,’ which means it’s easy for my kids to customize Forbrain to our individual needs and preferences.

Forbrain for Adults
When we got our Forbrain headset, I thought that it would be a great tool for my kids. But, I was surprised to discover that I like using the headset myself, too.
I have been using the headset when I practice the presentations I’ll be giving. I am always trying to improve my public speaking skills. The headset helps me focus on the sound of my voice, rather than distractions in the environment.
I have also been using the headset when I am practicing singing for the choir I participate in. I love that Forbrain can be used for these extracurricular activities and that it is versatile enough that the whole family can use the headset and experience positive results.
