How to Use the Transportation Worksheets for Preschoolers
These transportation worksheets for preschoolers are designed to help your child practice their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are important for developing handwriting skills. There are several different levels of handwriting pages included so kids of different levels can practice together.
In this pack, kids will learn about:
- hot air balloon
- sailboat
- car
- rocket
- ship
- truck
- train
- submarine
Color the Pictures
Each page includes a simple picture of a mode of transportation. Kids can color the pictures with a crayon or marker. Thick crayons are easier for small kids to hold, and harder to break.
While your child is coloring, take time to observe how they hold their crayon. You can help them correct their grip, gradually working towards a 3-finger tripod grasp. Your child should be able to hold a pencil using the correct grip by age 6.
Practice Tracing Letters
These transportation worksheets for preschoolers include versions to practice both capital and lowercase letters. Most kids start with capital letters first. It is a good idea not to move on to lowercase letters until your child can form all the capital letters using the correct strokes in the correct order on a consistent basis.
Tracing pages like these are a great way for kids to learn the shapes of the letters and to see the relative sizes of the letters and their positions on the lines. It is important to make sure that your child is forming the letters correctly whenever they are tracing letters.
Copy Sentences
This worksheet pack also includes worksheets with sentences for kids to trace and copy. When kids are copying a whole sentence, this is a great time to help them practice skipping a space between words.
If your child is struggling with spacing, you can ask them to put a finger from their opposite hand down on the paper in between words. Tell your child to “skip a space with your finger” to remind them to do this between each word. This should help them judge the correct amount of space to put between words.
It is easier for kids to copy the words on the line directly below where they are printed, so start with the worksheets that have a space right beneath the words first.
Learn Transportation Facts
These transportation worksheets for preschoolers include a unique fact about each method of transportation. Kids can copy the fact as they practice their handwriting. This is a great way to learn about transportation while practicing handwriting at the same time!

Adapt the Transportation Worksheets for Preschoolers for Your Kids:
For Younger Kids:
Practice Coloring.
If your child is not ready to read or write yet, you can use these worksheets as coloring pages. Ask your child to color the picture. You can also ask your child to add their own details to the pictures. They can draw a driver in the truck, or add a background to the scene.
For Older Kids:
Add facts of their own.
This pack also includes blank lined pages for kids to record facts that they learn in their own studies of transportation. Older kids can read a book about their favorite method of transportation, and then take notes and write down facts that they learn.
Practice cursive handwriting.
The single-lined pages in this pack are appropriate for kids who are learning cursive as well. Although cursive isn’t the focus in this pack, those pages can be used for cursive practice so that families can use this pack together!
