The Sonlight Pre-Kindergarten package includes a variety of books and resources to make preschool fun for young children.

Language

Language lessons in Exploring God’s World are based on reading good books. The curriculum includes a selection of read aloud books so that kids and parents can read aloud together every day.

Kids also practice pre-reading and writing skills using their senses. Exploring with the senses is an important part of Montessori philosophy that was very important to Dr. Maria Montessori.

The Pre-Kindergarten Supplies Kit includes a set of sensory letter cards. These sandpaper letters include both a tactile letter for kids to trace and arrows that demonstrate how to form the letter.

My daughter loves using the sensory letters. She is able to learn specific skills like the shapes and forms of the letters, and I know these letter recognition skills are laying the formation for handwriting in the future.

I love that she can practice these skills with a Montessori approach using the sensory letter cards. I know that the texture of the letters is helping her remember the letter shapes more easily.

Math

Dr. Montessori’s methods include teaching kids about math by using hands-on manipulatives. Working with these math materials is an important part of the daily routine for younger children in any Montessori school. I love that the Sonlight Pre-K program also includes Montessori materials for math.

The Pre-Kindergarten Supplies Kit includes math beads and a teens board. These materials are designed to teach kids the numbers from 0 to 30 and to introduce concepts of place value and building numbers.

As a former Montessori teacher, I love that the Sonlight Pre-K kit is designed to help me teach my daughter math in the way that her brain learns. The manipulatives are a great way to introduce abstract concepts like place value using concrete materials like beads that she can hold in her hand.

I am loving sharing the teaching methods and materials from my Montessori classroom with my own children. Sonlight Pre-K is a great way to teach a high-quality Montessori homeschool curriculum.

Sensorial

The math curriculum also includes learning about geometric shapes using a set of geometric shape stencils which are available for additional purchase. These geometric shapes for home use are very similar to the metal insets used in Montessori classrooms.

I would recommend purchasing the geometric shape set to go along with this curriculum. In addition to learning about the shapes, this activity is a great way for kids to practice fine motor skills, pencil grip, and pencil control as well.

Practical Life

The Instructor Guide book also includes suggestions for practical life activities and developmental skills to practice throughout the year. Practical life skills are an important part of Montessori homeschooling in preschool and I love that Sonlight makes it easy to include these as a part of our homeschool day.

The curriculum includes practical life skills like washing a bowl and cup, measuring and pouring, food preparation, and watering plants. Kids will also learn academic skills like cutting with scissors, gross motor skills like throwing and catching, and fine motor skills such as snapping and zipping.

I love that the Instructor Guide includes detailed instructions for setting up and completing each of these activities. I want to make sure that my kids experience a full curriculum with a wide variety of learning opportunities, and the Sonlight Pre-Kindergarten Package makes it easy to provide a comprehensive preschool experience for my kids.

Science and History

In Sonlight Pre-K, kids learn Science and History through read alouds with living books. The curriculum includes a range of books that help children develop a love of learning as they read together with their parents.

The read aloud books are my daughter’s favorite part of the Sonlight Pre-K program. She loves it when we read books together, and she often begs to read just a little bit more. I love that we are able to explore a variety of different subjects while reading together at the same time.

Music, Art, and Spanish

The Sonlight Pre-Kindergarten Package also includes books and resources for teaching a variety of other subject areas, including music, art, and Spanish. I love that we can explore each subject area at our own pace and that I can follow my child’s interests while exploring a variety of different subjects.

Bible

Since the Sonlight Pre-Kindergarten Package is Bible-based, each day starts with reading a Bible story. There is also a new Bible verse to memorize each week.

I also love that the Sonlight Pre-K program is designed to be completed in just 4 days per week. This means that we have an extra day each week for appointments, field trips, or other events. I never feel like I’m behind with home school when I use Sonlight resources because we have a built-in catch-up day every single week.

The comprehensive Instructor Guide is a critical part of every Sonlight curriculum package. I love that all the lesson planning is done for me with Sonlight. All I need to do is open the Instructor Guide, gather the resources we need, and we’re ready to start our day. It is easy to see at a glance what activities we will be completing each week.

The instructor guide also includes step-by-step directions for each of the Montessori activities, similar to what would be included in Montessori albums. The guide also includes discussion questions to ask after reading aloud, and additional activities to try.

Christian Perspective
