Reasons to Try Self-Paced Online Classes for Homeschool from Mr. D Math
Mr. D Math Junior Economics is a great way to introduce the principles of economics to kids in middle school. Here are some reasons to consider this curriculum for your family.

Easy for Kids to Use on Their Own
As a homeschool parent, one of my favorite features of the Mr. D Math Junior Economics curriculum is how well it caters to students learning independently. Dennis DiNoia, the creator of the Mr. D Math curriculum, believes in raising kids to be Independently Responsible Learners, and this shows in every curriculum option he offers. My son had no trouble diving into the online hub and completing lessons on his own.
Everything is designed to give kids a sense of responsibility for their own learning, because they can complete the lessons on their own, without needing the help of a parent. I love that this is more than just a middle school economics course – it’s a path to independence, teaching real-world concepts like the stock market and credit cards, all while preparing students to be successful as young adults.
What’s more, the online format meant that I had no lesson plans to write or prep work to do. When it’s time to get started, we just log in to the online portal and my son starts working on the next lesson. Many of the activities and quizzes are graded automatically, so my son gets instant feedback on how he is doing in the course. I love how easy it is to include this course in our homeschool!

Short Self-Paced Lessons
As a busy homeschool parent, I love the fact that Mr. D Math Junior Economics has short lessons. These are perfectly designed for middle school students who might be navigating a comprehensive course like this one for the first time. Each section consists of a short video lesson, an assignment, and a quiz that introduces various economic concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I love how Kelli Sandefur, the teacher of this class, does a great job of taking a complex subject matter like economics and explaining concepts in a way that students can understand.
The lessons in this class are self-paced, which means that my son could watch the videos and complete the lessons at any time. This makes Mr. D Math Junior Economics a great homeschool economics course option because we don’t have to make a live class time fit with our family’s schedule. I also love that if my son doesn’t understand a topic, he can go back to watch the video again as many times as he needs to without ever feeling like he is behind.
The short and focused lessons, combined with the flexibility of self-paced learning, make this a great course for homeschool students, and one that is easy to use for homeschool families.

Real-World Application for Homeschoolers
When I was looking for a good curriculum for my son about economics, I wanted something practical. Although it’s good for him to learn basic concepts of economics like different economic models or free markets or the federal reserve, I wanted something that would teach him what he needs to know to manage his own money as an adult. I know that when it comes to preparing our students for the real world, theory alone isn’t enough. This is where Mr. D Math Junior Economics shines as a great homeschool economics curriculum. I love that this curriculum focuses on financial literacy, helping kids develop money management skills they will need to be successful when living on their own.
The curriculum consists of 32 self-paced lessons and includes topics like:
- Basic economic concepts like supply and demand, wants and needs, and goods and services
- Types of payments including credit
- Using a check register and writing a check
- Opening a bank account and reading and reconciling a bank statement
- Applying and interviewing for a job
- Reading and understanding a paycheck
