Personalized Homeschool Coding Curriculum
Now that my son is in elementary school, I want to make sure that he has a solid foundation in computer programming and coding skills. But, I don’t have any experience or advanced level training in computer skills myself. I was feeling intimidated to teach coding in my homeschool until I discovered Online Coding Classes from Eureka Champs. This homeschool coding curriculum includes small group classes that are perfect for homeschool students ages 6-10.

I received compensation in exchange for my honest review, but all the opinions in this post are my own.
Eureka Champs Coding Classes for Kids
Eureka Champs Online Coding Classes are small group coding classes that meet once a week on Zoom. The classes have no more than four students, which means that homeschooled students can learn at their own pace.
During the homeschool programming classes, kids focus on three different learning platforms. Students practice Minecraft modding using Minecraft Education Edition. They also learn both drag-and-drop and text-based coding using Tynker and Construct 3.
Although Eureka Champs currently offers classes for kids ages 6-10, they plan to expand in the future and offer classes for middle school students ages 11-14. These classes will include math topics as well as Scratch coding, Java, Python code, and creating web pages.

Technology Requirements for Eureka Champs Coding Classes
In order to participate in Eureka Champs Online Coding Classes, it is important for students to use a desktop or laptop computer. They will need a keyboard to be able to type the code, and they will also need to be familiar enough with the computer and keyboard that they can use it for coding.
It is also important to make sure that the computer your student will be using has a strong Internet connection. Classes take place through screen sharing over Zoom and require the computer to be able to run Zoom and the coding program at the same time.

And as a busy homeschool mom, I love how easy it is for me to include coding in our homeschool day with Eureka Champs. All I needed to do was turn on the computer and help my son get to the lesson. From there, the teacher took over, guiding my son through each task. I didn’t need to do any planning or preparation, and I could even step away from the computer to work with my daughter or fold laundry while my son completed his lesson independently.

Individualized Homeschool Curriculum
My favorite part of Eureka Champs Online Coding Classes is the personalized attention that my son received throughout his class. Our trial class was a private lesson, and all the computer science classes include no more than four students. This is a great way to make sure that each child is understanding what they are learning and that classes are moving at the right pace.
I love that Eureka Champs classes are a great introduction to coding for young students. My son very limited computer skills. His teacher did a great job of making sure that he understood how to complete each task and teaching at his level. These classes were a great starting point for him to learn how to code in a fun environment.
Throughout the class, I always felt that my son was learning. He didn’t have to wait for other kids to catch up or struggle feeling confused while others worked. This was a great advantage that will allow him to progress quickly in his computer science curriculum.

Lots of Feedback
Another huge benefit of the classes with live teachers on Zoom is the ability to ask questions and get feedback. Throughout our video lessons, both my son and his teacher had their cameras and microphones on. This meant that my son could have a conversation with his teacher and could ask questions whenever he was confused. He never got frustrated because he was able to ask for help whenever he needed it.
I also loved the way the teacher gave him instant and personalized feedback throughout the lesson. I could tell that the teacher was an expert, not only in coding but also in working with children. Because she was controlling our screen on Zoom, she was able to show my son where to click by coloring on the screen to help him understand what to do. This kind of real-time feedback is the best way to learn to code.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
As my son was working through his coding lesson and completing the challenges in the video games, I could see that he was practicing critical thinking skills. He had to use his problem-solving skills to build a program that would help a dragon move through a maze. I love that the teacher was able to incorporate my child’s interests in dragons to make the lesson relevant to him.
Computer science courses are a great way to help kids learn important problem-solving skills like data analysis and thinking outside the box. I love that my son was able to practice these skills while playing simple games in his Eureka Champs Online Coding Class.
I really appreciated the way my son’s teacher asked open-ended questions to get him to think about what his program was doing and how to fix it. She did a great job of helping him think of the solutions, rather than just telling him the answers. This skill is important for game programming, but it also has practical value in his life as well.

One skill he focused on during his class was attention to detail.
