Why We Love Homeschool Career Exploration with Edison Learning
Helps Kids Make Career Choices
As a homeschool parent, I want my kids to graduate from my homeschool with an idea of what career field they would like to pursue. Although personality tests and career assessments are a great way to give kids an individual inventory of their talents, I think it’s important for kids to have experiences in their career field of choice as soon as possible.
Classes like those offered by Edison Learning, when combined with part-time jobs or volunteer positions in their possible career field, give kids a chance to try out a career before committing years to study it. This is the best way to help kids figure out if they have chosen a career that they will enjoy.
I love that the Career Pathways courses from Edison Learning help kids identify interests for a career they will love. I know that my kids will be better prepared for success as college students when they spend time exploring careers in high school. Having these kinds of experiences in the teen years is so important to help kids make the most of their time in college preparing for a career that they will enjoy.

Easy for Parents
As a busy homeschool parent, I appreciated how easy it was to use the Aeronautics and Space Travel course from Edison Learning. I didn’t need to make any lesson plans or do any prep work for my son to be able to take this semester-long class. When it was time for our lessons, we just logged in to the course platform and everything was neatly organized and ready for him to learn.
I also love that Edison Learning is making access to advanced technical training accessible to everyone who needs it. It can be hard to find technical skills training as a homeschool family, and the Career Pathways from Edison Learning are a great resource that makes creating a career exploration plan for your child so easy.
I also love that all of the multiple-choice quizzes are graded automatically. Taking the online assessment allowed my son to get some instant feedback about how he was doing in the class. And, it was easier for me because I did not need to grade his work!
Easy for Students
I also really appreciated how easy it was for my son to explore his career area of interest independently with Edison Learning! He was able to watch the videos and complete the assignments independently, with minimal help from me.
I love the way that the educational requirements for the class are organized in the course hub. It was easy for my son to see at a glance which activities he had completed and what he needed to do next. This kind of organization is so important for helping homeschooled students stay focused on their classes!

Variety of Learning Styles
I love that Aeronautics and Space Travel included a wide variety of different kinds of activities. This was a great way to allow my son to understand each topic of career exploration more deeply because he was engaging in different learning styles with each lesson.
This also means that the Career Pathways classes from Edison Learning will be a good fit for students, no matter what their learning style is.
Whenever my son started a new topic, the first thing he always did was watch an introductory video. This was a great way to get an overview of the topic and the kinds of things he would be learning. The lessons also include reading assignments and pictures.
A variety of interactive activities and assessments are perfect for helping kids think more deeply about each topic and for checking for understanding. The course includes a mixture of short answer questions and multiple choice quizzes.
Project Based Learning
There were also several project-based learning assignments included in the Career Pathways course. My son enjoyed these. He loves hands-on learning and this was a fun way to take what he was learning even deeper.
Projects like planning a dinner party with important people in the history of space travel or creating a brochure advertising a moon base encouraged him to think about what he was learning and apply it to a new situation. In addition to being a lot of fun, I know that this meaningful work will help my son remember what he is learning much more deeply.
The project-based assignments also give kids opportunities to practice skills like public speaking and working in a group setting that are critical for success for the rest of their life.
