My kids are definitely active learners. They love hands-on activities and anything where they can get up and move around during the lesson. That’s why I was so excited to discover The Word in Motion curriculum from Apologia! This Apologia Bible curriculum for kinesthetic learners is full of high-quality content and engaging lessons that make learning the Bible exciting for kids.

What is The Word in Motion Bible Curriculum?

The Word in Motion is a new Bible curriculum for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This curriculum was created by Rachael Carman, a homeschool mom of seven and owner of Apologia Educational Ministries. The curriculum is published by Apologia in partnership with Walk Thru the Bible.

This Christian homeschool curriculum includes 2 volumes. Volume 1 introduces each of the books of the Old Testament, while volume 2 centers around the New Testament. The primary focus of this curriculum is to show kids how the books of the Bible work together to tell one story of God’s love for and redemption of His people.

Visual learners will enjoy a full-color textbook and notebooking journal. Comic book-style illustrations and bright colors break up the text and keep your visual learner interested in the reading.

What’s Included in this Apologia Bible Curriculum

This curriculum includes a variety of resources to help teach the Bible lessons. As a teacher with a degree in education, I love that the same material is presented in different ways. This means that no matter what your child’s learning style is, they can learn in the way that they learn best.

Textbook

Each volume of The Word in Motion comes with a hardcover, full-color textbook. Each textbook includes 30 lessons that present an overview of the Bible, as well as a specific look at each Bible book.

As soon as we opened the text book, my kids were drawn into the colorful layout and beautiful illustrations. They enjoyed finding the character Wyatt, who appears throughout the lessons.

I also love how much information is included in the textbook. My son is always asking questions, and his favorite word these days is “why.” It is unusual for us to find a curriculum that answers all his questions, but The Word in Motion included all the details he was looking for.

Notebooking Journal

The notebooking journal is what really makes The Word in Motion curriculum easy to teach. The journal includes full-color notebooking pages with space for kids to take notes and answer questions as they read. You will also find Bible verses to memorize, discussion questions, application activities, coloring book pages, and even prayer journaling inside.

The notebooking journals even include flashcards and mini books to cut out and use to help kids remember what they are learning! My kids loved these hands-on activities!

I love that all the follow-up resources we needed were organized and ready to go. As a homeschool mom, I’m always looking for curriculum resources that make planning easy. All I had to do was hand my son the notebooking journal and the perfect activities were there ready for him.

I was also excited to find that my kids could practice their writing skills while learning about the Bible at the same time.

Videos

Each homeschool Bible lesson includes a short video with teaching from Rachael Carman. The video clips also introduce the motions that go along with each lesson.

To access the videos, you will need an Apologia account and a device with internet access. You can use the password included in the textbook to add the Textbook Extras to your account.

It’s important to note that if you want to watch the video clips on a TV, you will need screen casting technology or a way to visit a website on your TV. Since the video clips are such an important part of the curriculum, I would love to see them available for purchase on a DVD to make this part of the curriculum even easier to use.

My kids really enjoyed the videos. Their favorite part was learning and practicing the motions to help them remember the material from each lesson. My son is a kinesthetic learner and the actions in the videos really helped him remember the main point of each lesson.

Tips for Using The Word in Motion Bible Curriculum for Homeschool

Here are some suggestions to help you get the most out of this engaging curriculum.

Grade Levels

The Word in Motion is advertised as a curriculum for kids in kindergarten through 8th grade. It is also a great resource for families who want to study the Bible together. We found that the vocabulary in the videos and the amount of detail in the text makes this curriculum perfect for families with older children in upper elementary grades and middle school.

With a little supplementing, this curriculum could even be a good fit for high school students! Older kids who are looking for in-depth information about the Bible will be satisfied by what they find in the textbook and accompanying resources. Middle and high school students should be able to complete this curriculum independently with minimal help from a parent.

Families with younger students can get the most out of this curriculum when parents work alongside their younger children and help them understand what’s being said. Parents of young children should also plan to take more time with each lesson, so they can break it into smaller parts. This will help younger kids understand the material without getting overwhelmed.

Use the Lesson Plans

The Word in Motion curriculum contains a hidden gem- the online daily lesson plans. We discovered these during our The Word in Motion review and I was so excited to see how easy they make it to use the curriculum!

Each lesson has a printable PDF lesson plan and teacher’s guide that tells you exactly what to do each day. The plan even includes page numbers for the textbook or notebooking journal. This makes it easy to use this curriculum with no prep time required. Just print the lesson plan, grab the resources, and you’re ready to go!

And, there are 4 days of plans for each chapter. As a homeschooling parent, I love this because it means that the lesson plans have a little bit of flexibility built right into each week. If we have an appointment or need to skip a day of homeschooling, we don’t get behind in the lesson plans! And, each volume contains 30 chapters, which is perfect to be able to complete the book in a school year.

Study History Too

The Word in Motion is a fantastic Christian curriculum that will help kids develop a solid foundation and Biblical worldview as they learn about what the Bible says. You can also pair this curriculum with a history curriculum like Story of the World that will allow kids to take a closer look at world historical events during Biblical times. This kind of history study will help kids make connections between their Bible study and other subjects. Seeing each separate subject as connected and related to the Bible helps develop a Biblical worldview as well.
