Discover! 3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum for Language Arts
While preparing for the new homeschool year, I have been on the lookout for a homeschool 3rd grade English curriculum that would be easy to use as a homeschool family, and that my son could complete independently. I also wanted something that was designed to make learning easy by working with the science of how kids learn best. That’s why I’m so glad I found Discover! One of my favorite things about the Discover! English Language Arts 3 Curriculum is that I don’t need to do any lesson planning or prep to use this curriculum. The curriculum is divided into 84 ready-to-go lessons, so when it’s time for language arts, all I have to do is open the book and help my son log in to the website. By completing half a lesson each day (or one lesson every other day), my son will be able to finish the entire curriculum this school year.
I also love that this curriculum is designed for homeschooling and one-to-one learning. My son can learn at his own pace and it’s easy to adapt the curriculum to fit his skills and his learning style.
The instructor’s guide that comes with the curriculum is a great resource because it is full of helpful tips for teaching each lesson. Even first-year homeschool parents will be able to teach English at the third-grade level with the detailed lesson plans and support provided in the instructor’s guide.

Fun for Homeschool Students
As a busy homeschool parent, I love that my son can complete the lessons in Discover! English Language Arts 3 all by himself. It’s fun to watch his independence grow through independent work, and this language arts curriculum is a good place for him to practice skills he’ll need to learn on his own. All I need to do is grade his work when it is complete.
He also loves that his books include fun characters and lots of colorful pictures. These are important for an elementary curriculum because they keep him engaged in the lessons.
Discover! Comprehensive Instructor’s Guide
As a former elementary school teacher and veteran homeschool mom, I was really excited to see the instructor’s guides that come with Discover! English Language Arts 3. I love that there are suggestions for how to adapt every single lesson to fit kids with different learning styles (visual, auditory, or kinesthetic). No matter what your child’s learning style, these suggestions are a great way to make sure that they are able to learn in the way that they can learn best.
This also makes the curriculum a great investment for the entire family, because it’s easy to customize the curriculum for each sibling’s learning style when it is their turn to use the curriculum.
I also love that many of the lessons have extension activities included right in the daily lesson plans. These are extra activities that help kids apply what they are learning to real-life situations, or that make learning come to life. My son always has a great time with these activities, and I love the way this curriculum makes learning so much fun!

Student Workbooks for Homeschool Language Arts
One of the primary reasons that I love this curriculum is the way the lessons are organized in the student workbooks. Every lesson starts with a “Discover” activity, so kids can learn by doing instead of reading. This is really important because kids often learn better and remember more when they discover information on their own, instead of reading about it in a book.
I also love that the lessons include a list of vocabulary words and definitions that kids will need to know in order to be able to complete the lesson. This is so helpful to my son when he’s trying to complete the lessons independently, and it’s a great way to help third-grade students learn the kinds of vocabulary words they’re likely to see in other subjects as well.

In addition to the workbooks, our Discover! English Language Arts 3 curriculum also came with access to the online hub. These digital resources were a good way for my son to get extra practice with the concepts he was learning in the curriculum. The online hub includes additional video lessons and practice activities that aren’t included in the workbooks or teacher’s guide.
The combination of the workbook and the online hub has been great for my son. I love that he can practice his writing skills using the questions in the workbook, and still get all the benefits of the online hub too.
