As my kids get older, I’m realizing how important it is to spend time teaching them intentionally about generosity and compassion. I know that character training is an important part of our homeschool, and I have been looking for a Biblical resource that helps my kids develop these character qualities through Bible study. That’s why I’m so glad I discovered the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit from Generous Family. My entire family is really enjoying the fun activities and lessons in this homeschool curriculum. In this post, I’ll share my family’s experience and why this might be the best homeschool character-building curriculum for your family.

I received compensation and a copy of the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit from Generous Family in exchange for my honest review, but all the opinions in this post are my own.

Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit

The Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit is a faith-based, 26-week educational program designed to teach children and families about the importance of generosity and other core values. The program is centered around a seven-way framework of generosity. This includes generosity with thoughts, words, time, money, attention, influence, and sharing of belongings.

This curriculum kit includes:

  • Instructor’s Guide: The instructor’s guide includes step-by-step lesson plans for each day of the curriculum. I love that the lessons follow the same basic structure each week because the predictable routine helps young children know what to expect in each lesson. Lessons include applicable Bible verses, activity ideas, and extra resources such as book lists.
  • Generosity Heroes Book: In this book, kids explore character concepts through famous historical people and Biblical characters. This is a great resource to help kids think critically about the good character traits they are studying.
  • Student Journals: These are a great way for kids to apply what they are learning in their character education curriculum to their lives. The curriculum comes with 3 journals so multiple kids can learn together.
  • Instructor Portal: Scan the QR code in the lesson guide to access additional resources including lesson videos and printables.

Easy for Homeschool Families

As a busy homeschool mom, finding time to plan lessons for my homeschool can be a challenge. And, making sure that the lessons are meaningful, engaging, and age-appropriate for each child is even more difficult. That’s why I love the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit – it makes homeschooling so much easier!

The curriculum is an open-and-go program, which means that all the lesson planning is done for us. I love that I don’t have to spend hours searching for scripture references or planning activities. Everything is neatly organized in the instructor’s guide, and all I need to do is open to the next day’s lessons and follow along.

Short Lessons That Make a Big Impact

As a former teacher, I love that the lessons in the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit are designed to be short. Each lesson can be completed in just 10 minutes a day. I love short lessons in our homeschool because when I keep the lessons short, my younger children have an easier time staying interested and focused throughout the whole lesson.

Short lessons also mean that this curriculum can fit into our homeschool days, no matter how busy we are. I love that this curriculum is easy to include in my family’s everyday life during our morning basket time or our family Bible study.

Even though the lessons are short, they’re packed with meaningful content. Real-life activities and Bible lessons help kids learn about important topics like making good choices, showing compassion, and practicing godly character traits in fun and memorable ways.

Teaching the Seven Ways of Generosity

One aspect of the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit that stands out is its comprehensive approach to teaching about generosity. It’s about so much more than just giving money! The curriculum is built around seven ways of generosity, which helps children understand that generosity can apply to every part of our lives.

This program helps kids learn how they can also show generosity in their thoughts, words, time, influence, attention, and belongings. This broad definition of generosity enables children to practice it in various contexts of their lives. It’s not just about teaching them to share their toys, but about developing a genuine spirit of giving that extends to their interactions with others, their use of time, and even their internal thought processes.

Applying Christ-like Character to Real Life

The program also does an excellent job of integrating these life skills into each lesson in a way that’s engaging and relevant to children’s lives. The lessons incorporate a variety of resources like children’s books, scripture verses, and interactive lessons. As a result, my kids are not only understanding the concept of generosity but are also applying it in real-life situations.

I’ve been thrilled to see the curriculum inspire my children to think about how they can be grateful and generous in different ways. For example, they’ve started to pay more attention to how they spend their time and how they can use it to help or encourage others. My daughter has been drawing pictures to share with family and friends to encourage them, and she was excited to think about how she could be generous with her time in this way.

I have also noticed my kids begin to consider their words more carefully. At first, they noticed a lack of generosity in their sibling. (“Mom! He’s not being generous!”) Over time, however, I have noticed the number of fights over mean words begin to decrease. As my kids continue to practice doing the right thing in the curriculum, they are building real-life experiences with generosity and kindness too.

Great for Different Learning Styles

The Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit is easy to adapt to children’s different learning styles. This is built right into the structure of the program, especially on Days 4 and 5 of each week. These days are more open-ended, offering the opportunity to learn through various methods such as watching a video, completing a project, or reading from the suggested book list.

This flexibility makes this curriculum an ideal fit for families like mine, where each child learns in their own way. My creative older child loves to dive into projects, while my younger child enjoys the engaging videos.
