Speech Blubs Review: A Speech Therapy App for Toddlers
Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Speech Blubs speech therapy app for toddlers with my kids. I set up the app for my 2-year-old and we enjoyed trying it out together. My kids love this app and I’m excited to share my complete Speech Blubs review! I think this app will be a valuable tool for families who are concerned about speech delays with their kids. Here’s what we discovered.

What is Speech Blubs?
Speech Blubs is a speech therapy app for toddlers and kids ages 1-8. The app uses video modeling from real kids, as well as fun games and activities, to help kids practice new words. This app was created with input from Speech-Language Pathologists.
This app offers a free trial so that you can test it out with your kids risk free!

Setting up the Speech Blubs Speech Therapy App for Toddlers
The download and setup process for this app was simple. After setting up my account, the app gave me the option to sign up for reminder notifications. For a skill like speech, it is important for kids to practice often. Attention spans can be short, but a few shorter practice sessions are best. I was happy to see this option because I know that creating a schedule for practicing will help us remember to stay on track.
The app starts out with an assessment so it can create a personalized report and customize the app experience for your child. I entered my 2-year-old daughter’s name and birthday. Then, the assessment asked a number of questions about her hearing, pragmatics, play, comprehension, and talking. When the survey was complete, the app generated a comprehensive report for me analyzing my daughter’s skills in each of the areas based on my answers. The report included background information about what to look for in each area, and what warning signs to notice. It also offered helpful suggestions for how to practice each skill. The report included tips for how to use the app to help her improve in each area. Parents can access this information at any time from the app’s main menu. In addition, you can retake the quiz later to see your child’s progress.
After the assessment was completed, we were able to access the speech activities in the app. The app asked me what my daughter’s interests are. I was able to customize the home screen to show her favorite areas of interest at the top. She loves animals, so we started with animal activities first. There are also categories for vehicles, shapes, family, foods, colors, numbers, outdoors, toys, and more.

How to Use Speech Blubs
The speech practice activities consist of a video of a child saying a word: quickly, slowly, and then quickly again. The videos allow kids to watch the child’s mouth moving as they say the word. The app connects to the phone’s microphone and listens for your child to say the word back. It took a few tries, but soon my daughter was saying the words right along with the kids on the screen. She is pretty shy when trying new things, so I wasn’t sure if she would want to practice. Fortunately, seeing the other kids on screen seemed to help her want to do it, too.
This app also includes learning activities so that kids can apply the words they are learning as they play games. Sing-along songs, riddles, and feeling activities help give kids breaks while they practice. Sentence builders and trivia questions also help keep kids engaged and give them chances to practice the new words they are learning. Every activity in the app is interactive and encourages kids to participate, not just watch the screen.
I appreciated how easy it was to navigate within the app. Large red and green buttons on-screen directed my daughter where to go. Although I was sitting with her to help her, I think she would be able to use this app independently with a little bit more practice.

Motivation to Play the Speech Blubs Speech Therapy App for Toddlers
This part of my Speech Blubs review will focus on my favorite thing about the app: the way it motivated my kids to want to keep playing. Each of the practice sessions was short, focusing on just one word. I appreciated that the lessons weren’t too long, even for a young child with a very short attention span. At the end of each session, kids earn a small break or reward. Both of my kids loved the photo filters best. After practicing saying the word “monkey,” the app opened the camera with a money face filter. My kids thought it was so silly to see themselves with monkey fur and ears! After practicing “bird,” we took a picture of my daughter with a parrot on her head. This was the perfect interactive “reward” that kept her motivated to keep practicing.
Some of the practice sessions were followed by short videos that shared facts about the animals. These videos were definitely aimed towards an older toddler or lower elementary-aged child. My kids enjoyed watching the video clips and learning new facts about the animals. This feature would be a great motivation for older kids with speech delays who are using this app.
After completing 2 practice sessions, we unlocked a present- the ability to play a game. My kids both loved the balloon pop and the star pop game, and they were fighting over who got to pop the balloons! I appreciated the fact that the game was locked behind the speech practice activities. To unlock one turn playing the game, a child must complete 2 speech activities. After the game is done, the child must do 2 more speech activities to unlock it again.

How much is the app Speech Blubs?
The Speech Blubs app costs $14.49 per month for a monthly subscription. If you purchase an annual subscription, the cost drops to $4.99 per month, or $59.98 billed yearly. The app offers a 7-day free trial so you can try it before purchasing.
